Great Power Comes Great Responsibility

“Whatever life holds in store for me,
I will never forget these words:
With great power comes great responsibility.”
Peter Parker, a.k.a. Spiderman

Responsibility is an essential element of integrity; it is the congruence of what you think, what you say, and what you write. Responsibility is essential for reciprocity, trust, and for maintaining symmetric relationships.

Responsibility is a choice. Choice without responsiblity is greed, an attempt to get something for nothing that is the wasteful and harmful excess of egotists and tyrants. Responsiblity is a congruence between the actions we choose and of our values, because it unleashes choice. Whenever we think, decided, choosen and act we are exercising our personal responsibility.

I believe in the greatness of humankind, in the power that lies in every individual – the power to choose our response. The power to love rather that hate; the power to respect rather that disrespect; the power to deny self rather than being selfish; the power to stop fighting each other; the power to build each other up rather than tear each other down; the power to be united by mutually respect, acceptance and tolerance.

I pray that we will exercise the true power that lies within each individual human being – the power of responsibility.

  1. Rightly said Pope! This was Peter Parker's variation of Jesus' words: "To whom much is given, much is required"

Rudyard Kipling said it the other way round - “Power without responsibility - the prerogative of the harlot throughout the ages”!

  7. ah, Pope, ang galing naman ng post mo, parang pinapatamaan mo ako ah, haha. Salamat, salamat ng marami sa suporta and tiwala, that is enough to carry on and continue however distasteful? no! however difficult and challenging the responsibilities are.

I love that phrase from the Spiderman movie...

  9. To a responsible and sensible person this saying is true. Sadly I can't say the same for our "leaders". In their case its the other way around.

"Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely".

  14. SAKOP ng entry na 'to ang LAHAT-LAHAT! Whether I am a blogger, a lover, a military commander or a political leader... it covers even those who have the power to heal using a stethoscope; and even if you're The Pope, you're still covered by it's 'scope'.

  15. Korek!

at kung sakali man na tayo ay nagkamali may koneksyon man o wala sa kapangyarihan, iwasan sana nating manuro ng iba. bagkus aminin na lang ang kasalanan...

  20. To be responsible we should also be accountable... It does not solely mean to do what we think is right but also has the sense of being accountable if there will be failure... basta ganun... jejejejeje

    Competence vs Manipulation.
    Autonomy vs Dependence.
    Courage vs Cowardice.
    Integrity vs Betrayal.
